1Q. It appears that F-301 has been inadvertently labeled at Fire Protection when it is in fact for fire alarm and specifications are provided for a wet pipe fire protection system. Is there any work required for fire protection?
ANS: Fire protection work is minimal. The existing sprinklers in CL60 and CL61 are a dry pipe system and will remain. There is a small amount of sprinkler pipe demolition inside CL60 which was not shown on drawings. One 14’ branch line which served a single sprinkler head under generator #1 will need to be removed as part of generator demolition and the drain relocated at top. An 8’ drain line in NE corner of room will need to be demolished. See pictures attached. Specification 211313 is not required. Attached is an edited Dry Pipe Sprinkler Systems 211316 specification. Note that all existing exposed sprinkler piping inside Cl60 and CL61 will need to be painted red. See section 3.1.O in 211316 for painting requirements.
2Q. Please confirm that the specifications provided with the solicitation were carried over from another project and there is in fact no asphalt paving required.
ANS: Asphalt paving is required in area where underground fuel tank is being removed. An edited Asphalt Paving Specification 321216 revised 6_29_18 is attached and will replace the version included in the original solicitation.
CLARIFICATIONS:
The VAMC has both an existing Siemens and existing Johnson Controls DCS. The drawings indicate to reuse existing Johnson Controls in Cl60 and Cl61 where new work is occurring. As a consequence, please replace spec section 230923 with the attached revised version dated 6_29_18
The VAMC loading dock is open M-F from 7AM-4PM and normal operations must be maintained during those times. The third bay located closest to the underground tank can be made available to the contractor while fuel tank is being excavated. Heavy equipment removals (e.g. generators , fuel tank) must be done off hours while loading dock is closed. The currently fenced in area directly above fuel tank (between CL60 and CL61) is available for contractor use throughout the project.
