About this file

This document provides specifications for coating materials for use on water gates and related infrastructure. It lists approved coating systems from manufacturers PPG, Sherwin Williams, and others that consist of multi-coat epoxy and polysiloxane topcoats. The coatings must meet various performance requirements for water immersion, abrasion resistance, adhesion, and corrosion protection as measured by standardized tests. The specifications are referenced in a related federal contract opportunity issued by the Department of the Interior Bureau of Reclamation to refurbish six traveling water screens at the Dolores Water Conservation District in Colorado.

GUIDE SPECIFICATION

DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR – BUREAU OF RECLAMATION

WARNING

Users of this guide specification should have expertise in the protective coatings field. This field is undergoing significant changes due to emerging technologies and environmental regulations that affect protective coatings formulation and performance. Reclamation has experienced unsuitable coating applications when users without adequate coating knowledge selected inappropriate materials. The Materials and Corrosion Laboratory, 86-68540, in the

Technical Service Center prepared this guide specification and is available to prepare or assist in preparing project specifications for coatings.
