Construct Camper Cabins – VOYA
Questions and Answers listed below:
QUESTIONS:
Question # Question Answer/Response
1. The company that makes the kits (Conestoga) is out for 4 to 6 months as of today. I know that there is a part in there that states we can stick frame them...would the government prefer that over waiting and build yet this year, or get what you want and build next spring?
Our superintendent Bob, reached out to the regional concession folks and they are ok with construction taking place next spring, but the construction window may be very short. The concession office would like the cabins operational for as much of the season as possible. Per sheet A1 Salient Characteristics for Walls notes as acceptable a stud wall framing system with log round wood siding to replicate a log cabin aesthetic. Note as well however, characteristics also states interior wall finishing to be a 5/8" or greater tongue and groove wall planking or log type planking to conceal stud framing system. Provided that can be met and approved by the CO, the framing system would be acceptable.
2. Can we utilize the barge or barges on a more frequent basis if need be. It was told to us that we need to provide a 3-day notice...I would prefer if we had a little more flexibility.
With all the park operations going on and trying to recover from last years flood, we are using the barges heavily and the 3 day notice needs to be adhered to. With proper planning and safely maximizing the loads this should work for both entities.
Sometimes plans change and a barge may be available and we can try to accommodate the best we can but there are no guarantees.
3. When is the anticipated date to have all the site cleared and ready for building?
Date to have the sites cleared should be early to mid August if compliance goes as anticipated.
4. Could these be built on a slab on grade?
Slab on grade construction in this wooded, irregular topographic site will not be feasible for constructing slab on grade nor required earthwork in a fill condition without footings extending to frost depth or bedrock would not be acceptable.
5. Would a 2x6 wall with log siding meet the visual design criteria the NPS needs to achieve? This would eliminate the need for a double wall construction and beneficial to meeting the insulation requirements of the IECC, also staying within the construction timeline, considering Conestoga have a six months delay on fabrication and shipping on their kits.

6. Could power be achieved from solar instead of gas-powered generators for the duration of the project?
Contractor provision of power for their operations (equipment, task lighting, etc) is a means and methods by Contractor determination. Limitation is that no electrical utility infrastructure is available for connection/use. Solar provision would be inclusive in approved means and methods; however, with tall canopy coniferous forested cover, ability to align and capture sufficient solar exposure is not guaranteed.
