Solicitation #: 140P6422R0014

Amendment #: 0001

Ravine Restoration – APIS

Questions and Answers listed below:

QUESTIONS:

Question # Question Answer/Response 1.

Refer to Project Specification p 4 para 6: “Place field stones of 3' diameter at the bottom of the ravine where water flow occurs to prevent erosion/trenching”

How many of these stone are required?

Are the stones placed in ravines No 1, 2 & 3?

Stones will not be needed this project.

This has been removed from the project specifications.

Please refer to the revised specifications provided with the solicitation amendment.

2.

Refer to Project Specification p 4 para 5. “Remove Ravine #2 material. Complete reshaping of Ravine #2 and replace fill taken to create the pad.”

Clarify what material should be removed?

And where to should it be moved?

Native material should be used to reshape bank. Excess material can be spread out on-site or used to create pad.

If spreading onsite – the contractor is to coordinate with the onsite COR.

Dump trucks will still be hauling away any debris that cannot be utilized onsite. This is the contractor’s responsibility to ensure any and all un-usable materials are disposed of properly.

3.

Refer to Project Specification p 4 para 1.

“Placement of a temporary support structure over Ravine #1 to allow dump trucks to follow in behind excavator, beginning removal work on Ravine #2.”

Clarify what the dump trucks should haul?

If the contractor decides to not utilize the fill on site, this is an option should a contractor decide to utilize a dump truck for hauling project materials.

Dump trucks will still be hauling away any debris that cannot be utilized onsite. This is the contractor’s responsibility to ensure any and all un-usable materials are disposed of properly.

4.

Can the fill that is removed to uncover the culverts be used to repair the slopes of the ravine?

Yes

5.

Regarding the excavated material from sites 1and 2 which the specs say to remove:

- Does this material need to be removed from the site via trucking or may it be placed and reshaped outside of the ravine areas?

Also see question number 2 – Excess materials from one ravine could be used in the other (e.g., if there is excess materials from Ravine 1 that is needed for Ravine 2, that would be acceptable (or vice versa)).

It cannot be used outside of the ravine areas.

6.

Will the slide slopes leading down to the ravine bottom at site 1 and 2 be required to be 1V2H slopes or what will the specification be for that?

1V2H slopes is acceptable.

7.

On site 3 does the scope of the project only include removal of the culvert and light restoration or do the side slopes need to be cut and shaped to the determined specifications?

Site 3 is limited to removal of the culvert with minimal disturbance of the bank. No cutting and shaping of the side slopes.

8.

Will the contractor be permitted to regrade the road leading down the hill to the project sites if needed for truck access?

The NPS does not have any jurisdiction over the road leading to the project location.

Ridge Road owned by the Town of Russell up to the NPS boundary, which is within the project site.

9.

Will the contractor need to import topsoil to the project to be used for restoration?
