Questions
Answer
1
Who owns the maintenance/testing of the fire alarm system? It would be helpful to know the party responsible for the maintenance and testing of the fire alarm system to ensure compliance with safety regulations and allocate appropriate resources.

Currently, Mardini Fire Equipment has the testing agreement with NPS for this location (nardinifire.com).

2
We would like flexibility to quote the following vendors for the HVAC and exhaust equipment. It would be beneficial to receive guidance on whether Carrier, Bryant, York, Coleman, Trane, Lennox are acceptable for the HVAC and exhaust equipment, ensuring compatibility and meeting project requirements.

It is recognized these manufacturers are all reputable. Provided the salient characteristics of the basis of design HVAC unit are met or exceeded by a proposed alternate manufacturer, the alternative manufacturer may be considered equivalent, subject to determination of the Contracting Officer.

3
Is PVC acceptable over copper drain lines? To address corrosion concerns, we are considering the use of PVC instead of copper drain lines. It would be valuable to understand if PVC is an acceptable alternative, taking into account any specific regulations or limitations.

Condensate drain lines shall be allowed to deviate from the specified copper if unit manufacturer requires different material.

4
Can we install a condensate neutralization kit? This would be used in conjunction with the PVC pipes to avoid premature erosion. Installing a condensate neutralization kit can have environmental benefits and is commonly practiced. However, clarification is required to ensure compliance with regulations and obtain any necessary approvals.
If not called out in the construction documents, the neutralization kit is not not required nor do we want it as contractor elected additional component.
5
Is recycling of the old system required? Recycling the old system can contribute to sustainability efforts and potentially impact disposal costs. It would be helpful to ascertain whether recycling is required and if there are any specific procedures or guidelines to follow.

Please refer to Division 01 10 00, part 3.7 A. and interpret the extent of required recycling per the specification section statement.
