About this file
This document contains responses to questions from potential offerors on a solicitation to install a new fire suppression system. The solicitation seeks offers for products and services to install a new fire pump control panel (FPCP) and associated equipment at a National Park Service facility. Key details include that the FPCP will be provided as an integral part of the fire pump package. Temporary power for a climate controlled artifacts building can be taken from an existing MDP in another building if sufficient power is not available from an alternative source. The existing fire alarm panel is a Simplex 4004 serviced by Seacoast Security, though it may have been replaced, and the new system must interconnect with any existing fire alarm. Conductors for emergency and main power feeds to the FPCP must be sized per NFPA standards. The contract award date is not specified.

2022028 Curatorial Storage – RFI Response - CA
8/31/2023
1. I see a note Drawing FP3, and as I read the specs it appears to me that the Fire Pump vendor will be providing the ATS to be integral with the Fire Pump package, can you please confirm?
Note 7 on Sheet FP-1 should read, “Fire pump ATS is integral with FPCP.”
2. Per Drawing FP1 Note #7, the conduit feeder from the generator to the 100A Panel PP, located in the Loading/Isolation room, is entering in one end of the Tank Room and then out the back of the Tank room and then into the Collections Room, is that a clearance issue?
2a. I only ask because I was wondering why we can’t enter the Collections Room, from inside the tank room?
Circuit from emergency generator to Panel PP is intended to run through the Curatorial Storage attic space. Curatorial Storage ceiling is higher than Tank Room ceiling.
3. Per Drawing C1, we are to provide temporary power for the Climate Controlled Artifacts Building, where is it planned to get temp power from?
3a. I would suggest something from the Trails Building 294?
Temporary power can be taken from the MDP in Building 194 if adequate power is not available from Building 294.
4. On drawing FP3 it is requiring that the EC provide (2) two new Shunt Trip breakers in the existing MDP does anyone know what the existing MDP is?
4a. If no one knows when could I schedule a site visit before bid due date?
Load shedding of Panel PP, when fire pump comes on, occurs with ATS switching Panel PP from main power to emergency power, and shunt trip breaker in emergency generator opening.
Photos of MPD attached.
5. We need to interconnect the existing Fire Alarm with the new FPCP does anyone know who the existing Fire Alarm Panel is serviced by and what type panel?
Existing panel at time of design, was a Simplex Model 4004, serviced by Seacoast Security. The Government was planning to replace this panel, so it might have been changed by now.
6. I’m sorry as I was taking off the conduit and wire this morning I discovered that the wire size in the 2” conduit for the new 100/80A feed to the pump ATS is only #6 wire, #6 is only rated for 65Amps we should have at a minimum #4 which is rated for 85 amps. for the 80A off the generator and #3 for the 100A from the transformer, Can we please confirm wire sizes are accurate per plans.
Fire Pump ATS/FPCP package is rated as service entrance. Conductors for main power and emergency power are both sized per NFPA 70, 6096-A,B,C (125% of full load current).
The circuit breaker at the emergency generator is only starting a 10 HP motor, so that circuit breaker should be changed to 75 amp instead of 80 amp, so as not to exceed 250% of the motor’s full load current.
Coordinate with utility company to assure protection on primary side of their transformer will carry 6 times locked rotor current of the fire pump motor.
100A to ATS should utilize minimum (4) #3.
