Questions and Answers #2

28) Q: Wildlife Viewing Area - Please confirm if the new benches should have the same finish as the new concrete picnic tables (i.e. Polished Smooth Finish for seat and back, Sand Blasted Finish for the base, Color: Sand Tan)

A: Concrete park bench with back rest shall be polished smooth finish for seat and back, light sand blast finish for the base, color: Sand Tan.

29) Q: Wildlife Viewing Area - Narrative says that new 16’x16’ shade structure should match the existing. Existing structure includes a decorative sunburst design in the roof of the gable. Existing structure also appears to have a steeper roof pitch (~10:12). Please confirm if we should quote the new structure to match the existing, or if we should refer to the ‘Orlando’ specifications (i.e.

standard gable roof with 4:12 roof pitch). Example drawings below for reference.

A: Basis of design is the ‘Orlando’ shade structure. Stone column surrounds are to match existing in style, size and type. Contractor to submit Ramada color samples with Ramada &

Stone columns submittals for BLM approval. Color choices to be typical BLM nature colors to include a rustic look like existing ramada.

30) Q: Wildlife Viewing Area - New shade structure requires saw-cuts into existing sidewalk.

Existing concrete appears to be colored. Please confirm if there are any additional specifications of the concrete for pour back.

A: Submittal to include color samples to match what is existing. BOD: Direct Colors

Vibrance Concrete Dyes and Stains.

31) Q: Wildlife Viewing Area - Please provide the correct finished dimensions of the Stone Columns.

A: Stone columns were made with 8”x8”x16” center scored block (stained brown) at

16”x16”x40” columns.

32) Q: Flying W Day Use Area - Should any of the 6 new concrete picnic tables be ADA accessible?

A: All specified picnic tables are ADA accessible.

33) Q: Flying W Day Use Area - Should any of the 4 new grills be ADA accessible?

A: Yes- one grill should be ADA accessible. The specified unit will suffice; however, it needs to be installed such that the upper lid handle is no higher than 48” above the ground when lid is the open position and it needs 48" of clear space.

34) Q: Flying W Day Use Area - Please confirm that the 2 latching trash receptacles and “large 1000

SF ramada” listed in the Introduction and General Information section are to remain.

A: Correct. The two bear-proof trash receptacles and large ‘W’ ramada will remain.

35) Q: Flying W Day Use Area - Please confirm that 2” is the correct depth of sand for the volleyball court. Standard sand depth for volleyball is 12” minimum, and 24” is recommended.

A: Confirmed. Due to the location, brush, and vegetation, it’s not expected that recreationists will use the court barefoot as they would in a developed park or at a beach. A

2-inch sand layer can be maintained and filled in more easily than 12-inch layer.

36) Q: Flying W Day Use Area - Please confirm if a new volleyball net and court markings are needed. Only the posts are mentioned.

A: A new net is required but markings are not needed.

37) Q: Flying W Day Use Area - There is no mention of a footing detail for the volleyball poles installation. Please provide.

A: Schedule 40 galvanized steel permanent posts as part of a proprietary volleyball system, such as ‘Stackhouse’ outdoor volleyball systems (or approved equal) shall be installed in a permanent concrete footing per manufacturer’s directions.

38) Q: Flying W Day Use Area - Price Schedule includes auxiliary items for volleyball court. Please specify these items.

A: See responses to question 37. If a proprietary pole system is installed which includes hardware for the net, that cost becomes part of the bid item.

39) Q: Old Safford Bridge Boat Put-In - SOW calls for the replacement of three (3) new CCW

Rectangular Free Standing Concrete Picnic Tables. Price schedule and Quantities listing show for the replacement of one (1). Please confirm.

A: One picnic table is to be replaced at Old Safford Bridge Boat Put-In.

40) Q: Old Safford Bridge Boat Put-In - SOW states the existing pad and any footings are to be demolished. Please confirm which concrete pad is to be demolished.

A: The existing pad refers to the stretch of sidewalk and the toilet slab. There are also footings for the tube steel rail, information kiosk, and grill that will be removed and replaced with new.

41) Q: One additional item we need to bring to your attention; the Safford bridge is restricted on load limits and will present a problem when accessing the Old Safford Bridge & Boat Put-In site.

There are also two other bridges with restricted load limits further north of this site which will impact access from the north. This particularly affects concrete and equipment movements. Is it your expectation that we will provide temporary bridging for construction access for this site, and if so, where should we include it on the bid schedule?

A: There is another way to the site that will no require transporting over bridges. South

109.319394. This bridge has a posted limit of 15 tons. There is a short admin route to go around the bridge. Admin route is fenced off and BLM will be able to open gates. This route is approximately 17 miles to Old Safford Bridge Boat Put-In. Road has a couple sharp turns and is not paved.

42). Q: For the volleyball court at the Flying W, where will the excess material go, and will the perimeter railroad tie need to be buried and anchored into the ground?

A: The excess material can be stockpiled at 32.88920153301263, -109.49551011814093.
