About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document for an HVAC replacement project at the Neosho National Fish Hatchery, managed by the Department of Interior Fish and Wildlife Service.

The document addresses four technical questions regarding HVAC specifications. The existing 80% efficient furnace is to be replaced with a 14 SEER unit or more efficient if 14 SEER is unavailable. The current 2.5-ton A/C unit will be intentionally downsized to a 2-ton unit based on actual interior cooling requirements. The contractor must install new refrigerant lines rather than flush existing ones, and a new condensate pump is required (either as part of the unit or as an additional bid item).

Text version

Question 1. The existing furnace is an 80% unit. Do we bid a new 80% furnace with an add to go to 95% furnace?

Answer: Bid a 14 seer, or more efficient unit if 14 seer is not available.

Question 2. The existing A/C is a 2.5-ton unit. You have listed a 2-ton unit in the statement of work. Is the downsizing intentional?

Answer: The existing unit is a 2.5 ton. We believe a 2 ton is sufficient based on the actual square footage being cooled inside.

Question 3. Existing refrigerant lines are sized correctly for a new A/C unit. Can we flush the existing lines and replace any torn and weathered insulation?

Answer: No, replace with new.

Question 4. Do we bid in a new condensate pump?

Answer: We would like a new condensate pump. If this does not come with the unit, please bid to add.
