140D0421Q0397 Perimeter Metal Gratings Questions and Answers
1. Location of work- please clarify that location of work is at the Department of Interior as well as at the contractor's shop.
Location of work is at:
The U.S. Department of the Interior- Main Interior Building
1849 C St. NW
Washington, DC 20240
All grates should be removed from the area and prepped, painted at contractor's facility prior to reinstallation at jobsite. DOI does not have an area suitable for use as a staging area for the items or for any other prep work that may be required.
All work is on the exterior (perimeter) of the building, but access will be provided to the building for use of restrooms, snack bar, or other amenities. Parking for smaller vehicles may be provided if available, but due to height limitation of garages may not be possible for larger vehicles.
2. Please clarify that the gratings should be repaired, and the mesh screen should be replaced.
Any significantly bent heavy iron grates should be bent back into shape to form consistent spacing with the rest of the grate. All applied top screening material should be removed and replaced with new screening material like the example on C St, near
18th. This screening material should be finished in the same way as the iron grates.
3. Please verify the number of grates - is it a total of 24 or 25 grates?
The breakdown of pricing should be based on each of the locations around the building, identified in the SOW. There are 11 total locations, with each location consisting of anywhere from 1 to 7 grate sections of various sizes.
4. Please confirm the specific color as "battleship grey."
The color of the grates and screening material shall be battleship grey.

5. Please specify which if grates 1, 11 and any other grates need to be straightened.
Correct, grates 1 and 11 should be straightened. No other grates should require this work.
Note that on the revised SOW, grate 1 is referred to as location 1 and grate 11 is referred to as location 8.
6. Please clarify if grate 3 and 2 X grates is one piece.
Based on our further assessment during the walkthrough, the grates identified as 3, 4 and 7 are made up of one piece and not the 8 smaller sections as listed in the SOW.
The total number of grates at this location is 7 and not 15 as originally thought. New mesh screening material should be made and applied to each of these locations.
A complete breakdown of the number of grate sections will be provided in the revised
SOW. Screening material should be applied to each section of heavy iron grating individually. For locations where the iron grating has been cut to around angles, similarly the attached screening material should be as well.
7. Please clarify that grates 4 and 2 X grate 7 is one piece.
See response to question 6.
8. Please clarify that one mesh covering should be made for the above if question #6 is true.
See response to question 6.
9. Please clarify that one mesh covering should be made for the above if question #7 is true
Yes, one mesh screen covering should be made for these locations where it's only comprised of one iron grate.
