Questions and Answers

1. The surrounding door heights in the area are 6'8", our recommendation is to make the new security doors the same height for both aesthetics and budgetary reasons. Is this acceptable or would a 7' door height work better for access in moving furniture or other equipment in and out?

A1: Please make the door height 7’

2. While discussing the frame color during the pre-bid meeting, it was suggested that we match the bright finish of sign surround or elevator call panel. Both finishes had a brushed finish with only a slight variation in color, either being a very light bronze or brass finish. Please confirm which finish would be preferable to fabricate the barrier or should we seek approval of finish prior to fabrication? Finish may affect the cost of fabrication.

A2: Please seek approval prior to fabrication

3. After looking at the mechanical area directly below, it was noted that there is a structural concrete header that spans the columns, our concern is that this condition exists in the area where the barrier is to be installed and would impede the conduit for the security wiring. Are there building plans available to confirm the ceiling construction?

A3: Confirmed with Building management that the area that the conduit would be running does have an opening. The path for the conduit would be above the smooth plasters of the ceiling. 1” conduit would be run from path to the framing channel.

Contractor would cut/patch/paint drywall ceiling after conduit is run. Please note textured ceiling cannot be cut as it contains asbestos containing materials.

4. If the area above the ceiling is not open as is currently thought, is exposed conduit acceptable in the corner of the ceiling above the security desk as an alternative to installing it above the ceiling? The finish could be matched as closely as possible to the current ceiling color.

A4: NA

5. Please confirm the security hardware information will be provided in advance of when bids are due as discussed during the pre-bid meeting, this will allow for best fabrication of security barrier.

A5: Parts list provided as separate attachment

Questions and Answers

6. Will contractor be responsible for additional costs associated with the life safety and HVAC studies? (additional sprinkler heads, emergency signage, etc.)

A6: The contractor will not be responsible for any additional costs associated with the life safety and HVAC studies.

7. Can we mechanically anchor screws into the grout or tile joints as discussed as a possibility during the pre-bid meeting?

A7: Anchor screws can be attached to the flooring grout but not the columns.

8. Can we use structural silicone at the any of the floor, walls or bulkhead to additionally secure/anchor the frame in place?

A8: Structural silicone could be used if it is able to be easily removed without damaging the building. This would also need GSA historic approval.
