MIDDLE AGED SERVICE CONTRACT

Questions and Answers

• Questions were posed concerning the size classes of trees that needed to be fell in the treatment unit.

• Answer: It was 10” minimum diameter for any tree that was within a roadside hazard tree zone and 18” minimum diameter for trees within “treatment units”, outside of the roadside hazard zones.

• Questions were asked about slash treatment, falling onto private property and roads.

• Answer: There was no slash treatment, other than removing slash from road prisms if the trees are felled into road prism. Also, stated that trees could not be fell onto private property.

• Questions were asked about vendors requirements if a felled tree got hung up in another tree and did not hit the ground.

• Answer: As long as the tree was severed from the stump, no additional work would be required to specifically get the tree on the ground. Also mentioned that we knew the falling would be done in a high risk environment and we did not want any contractor to have to add additional risk to themselves by cutting trees that had become hung up if doing so was deemed an even higher risk, which it likely would be.

• Questions about falling trees into or across drainages.

• Answer: Only chainsaws could be used within the riparian protection zones and that within the riparian protection zones only hazard trees would be fell. Hazard trees within the riparian protection zones could be fell across stream courses if that is the direction the tree needs to go because of lean or defect. Stated that there was no requirement to not fall trees across drainages. Discussed the requirement of clearing out slash from any felled trees within 20 ft. of culvert inlet. Discussed Riparian protection zones. See Modification 2.

• Question was asked concerning when contract terminated and how much needed to be done this first year.

• Answer: See schedule of items. Extension for base item will be considered if moderate progress has been made before cut off.

• Question: Is there any limbing required?

• Answer: There was no lopping, limbing or bucking requirements for the trees. No requirements that the trees would need to be fell in a particular direction or staged, just get the trees on the ground safely.
