Telephone Flat Aggregate (129AC719Q0025) Questions and Answers Document
Subsequent versions of this document will contain questions from all previous versions.
Version 2: 05/16/2019
Q1 – Reference Q/A #4 “We would be using a belt scale to quantify tons/yards. How does the government intend to confirm quantities and does the belt scale work for this? I believe a belt scale would work. We just need a scale ticket to confirm quantities”. A belt scale of any type will not print out a scale ticket. It is a digital device that is connected to the conveyor its self. The only way to produce a ticket is to load a truck (s) and scale both tare weight and heavy weight at a certified scale.
A1 - Tonnage is a common unit for this type of work. The Forest Service will measure the volume of final stockpiles and we intend to use a 1.5 tons per cubic yard ratio for our spot-checking. Contractors bidding based on calculations with cubic yardage can use this conversion.
Version 1: 04/30/2019
Q1 - Does your office believe there will be blasting required?
A1 - Blasting may be required depending on how difficult it will be to dig into the pit wall for additional rock for crushing.
Q2 - The bid calls for 3/4" minus. Item 003. The back of the spec chart referenced is 3/4" max with 2-9 on the 200's. What spec will be needed?
A2 - The crushing calls for Caltrans Specs for the 3/4” and 1-1/2” minus aggregate while crushing calls for Standard Specifications for Construction of Roads and Bridges On Federal Highway Projects on the Riprap.
Q3 - On page 6 of the project plans (Drawings) Item # 61902 (Gate) I am assuming that this is to be included into the price of 003. Is that correct?
A3 - The gate will be a separate pay item and it is not tied to the aggregate crushing pay item. The pay item was inadvertently omitted from the schedule of items. An amendment has been posted updating the schedule of items.
Q4 - We would be using a belt scale to quantify tons/yards. How does the government intend to confirm quantities and does the belt scale work for this?
A4 - I believe a belt scale would work. We just need a scale ticket to confirm quantities.
