1291S8-20-Q-0004 Q&A/RFI’s

1. Do we cut the smaller trees?

A: Anything that is 16” DBH and smaller can be removed near codominant trees. The spacing in the trees needs to be 40% canopy. But do not cut the smaller regenerating trees, we need to let them mature.

2. Do we have to remove the debris?

A: In open area you can lop and scatter, but in denser areas we need to make piles.

3. Is there chipping?

A: Yes, mainly 50 feet off of the road but more can be chipped too.

4. Can we mulch/masticate the 16” DBH trees?

A: You can masticate the limbs but if you want to do the whole tree, you need to take it from top to bottom and try to get the stump down to 6”.

5. Is the Project based on Prevailing wage?

A: Yes, please reference Wage Determination Attachment.

6. How low do the stumps need to be and do we need to lower previously left stumps?

A: 6 inches and you don’t need to cut previous stumps.

7. If there is a smaller tree do we still limp 8-10 feet?

A: No, do only 1/3rd of the tree.

8. Do we leave the big dead snags that are currently there on the ground?

A: Yes, you don’t need to remove them.

9. How many Acres is the whole project?

A: 69 Acres (please read the solicitation – stated on the schedule of items and Scope)

10. Can we drive the road?

A: Yes, from Hwy 2, turn into East Blueridge Road. You can stage you equipment out of the way in turnouts/staging areas and make sure to have road guards when working along the road.

11. Is the handline only on the bottom of the slope?

A: Yes, there is no handline needed near the road.

12. Will there be access all the way down to the last plot?

A: Yes, the road should be open all the way down.

13. What are the requirements regarding the Sporax/Cellu-treat? Required license?

A: Sporax or Cellu-Treat are not restricted-use pesticides. They are considered “General

Use”. Neither State, Federal, nor Forest Service Policy require certified applicators when applying General Use Pesticides. Personnel will need to be trained on the application.

Contractor is responsible for insuring the training is done. If the contractor does not have the training, FS can facilitate the training which will be 2-4 hours.
