Questions from South Campus PRV replacement site visit: 5/4/2023 Solicitation: 12639523Q0136
Question #1: Does USDA want a ductile iron valve or carbon steel? The documents say both.
Answer #1: The new 12” PRV shall be ductile iron per the CLA-VAL spec provided in the SOW under section 1.4.1 “Pressure Reducing Control Valves”. The new 12” butterfly valves can be carbon steel.
Question #2: Is there any flexibility on the 4-hour water outage?
Answer #2: If the awarded contractor can isolate the 12” PRV from the bypass around the valve and use the bypass to provide water to the south campus during the work to replace the PRV, then the water outage should not be an issue. The 4-hour outage window is for a sustained outage. We cannot have a sustained outage for more than 4 hours.
Question #3: Does the USDA know the location of the city of Ames water supply shut off before the vault where the 12” PRV is located?
Answer #3: No. Awarded contractor will need to contact the city of Ames and work with them to shut off the water supply to south campus. USDA staff will only operate valves on USDA property.
