About this file
This document contains a request for information and responses related to a small plot combine solicitation from the Department of Agriculture Agricultural Research Service Field Research Implementation and Information Delivery Midwest Area. Specifically, the agency is seeking a small plot combine without a grain bin or unloading auger, as they rely on complete sample harvest via air delivery. The added weight and size of these components can cause safety and maneuverability issues. The combine must have a diesel motor with adequate power to operate a two-row research combine, with the current harvester having a 75-horsepower engine. It should have a standard grain capacity of 48 bushels, though their soybean plots never produce greater than 15 pounds per sample.

Requests for Information Solicitation 12505B23Q0234
Question 1: The specifications say, “without grain bin and unloading auger.” Is this correct?
Or should it say with grain bin…?
Answer 1: We do not need the typical grain bin and unloading auger. We rely on complete sample harvest via air delivery. The added weight and size of the grain bin and auger can cause safety and maneuverability issues in the field and during transport.
Question 2: Please clarify grain capacity (standard is 48 bushels).
Answer 2: Our soybean plots never produce greater than 15 pounds per sample which is why a ¼ bushel weigh hopper is specified.
Question 3: Please clarify the engine HP.
Answer 3: A diesel motor with adequate power to operate a 2-row research combine. Our current harvester has a 75-horsepower engine.
