The solicitation is issued by the Department of Agriculture Forest Service and seeks removal of logs that have been on the ground since Hurricane Laura in August 2020. Respondents may use saws to cut trees and logs into smaller pieces for transport, with performance to be completed within eight months of award. Logs may be bucked to fit into 16-foot dump trucks for efficiency of operations. There is no incumbent contractor as this is a new requirement.

Item Question USDA FS Response
1 I would like to know what the allowed time to complete work will be on this project, and can a saw be used to cut the trees into shorter pieces for transport?
A saw can be used for bucking into smaller pieces for transport. Since the contract is taking some time to get out we will probably extend the contract from award date to 8 months out.
Firstly, could you please provide further details regarding the period of performance for this particular job? Is October 31st the only available date for performance?
We will need to extend our performance period from time of award to 8
Months out
3 We are considering optimizing our operations for efficiency. Would it be permissible to cut the logs in a manner that allows them to fit into our 16-foot dump truck? Bucking logs for transport is acceptable.
Another question I had is whether there was an incumbent? If so, could you provide information on the contract number and value?
This is a new requirement. There is no incubment contractor.
Do we know how long the logs have been sitting there? So the logs have been on the ground since Hurricane Laura August 2020.
They were able to soak up water until this summer when they were cut and stacked.
