12405B23R0007-ARS STONEVILLE B-21 CONCRETE PAD Q&A DOCUMENT
1.) Is there a Geotech report available?
Answer: No Geotech report is available.
2.) Please confirm the existing pavement section is 8" of asphalt on top of in-situ soils.
Answer: 8” of asphalt on top of in situ soil is what the SOW is based on. We don’t have any cores at this exact location to determine depths. In the other areas that we have cored, it showed approximately 6” of asphalt on in situ soils. In the SOW, we have it conservatively estimated at a depth of asphalt of 8” for saw-cut purposes.
3.) May excess cut material be disposed of on-site?
Answer: No dumping on premises will be allowed. Contractor will remove all excavated material from site.
4.) Are any of the concrete down spout splash blocks to be salvaged or replaced?
Answer: They are to be Salvaged and reused.
5.) Please confirm that only electronic proposal submission is required and not both electronic and hard copy.
Answer: As per the instructions provided in Section B.6 of the Clauses and provisions, proposals are to be emailed.
6.) Will any erosion control measures or reporting be needed for this project?
Answer: None anticipated since all the work is located within existing pavement.
7.) Paragraph L.11.4, in the Special Clauses & Provisions, makes reference to a cost breakdown.
Please provide a format for the desired cost breakdown to ensure all responses are easily reconcilable
Answer: Something similar to a schedule of values is sufficient. Something measurable that progress payments can be estimated from.
8.) Please clarify if expansion joints or contraction joints are to be wide sawed prior to sealing.
Answer: Not familiar with the term “wide cut”. The contraction joint will be green cut as shown in the SOW upon initial set of the concrete. The expansion joint can be formed or green cut.
9.) Please clarify what type of joint is expected where the new pavement will butt up against the existing pavement.
Answer: A Contraction Joint is required but no sawing and sealing will be required. Just a tooled edge.
10.) Is there an anticipation for undercut based on historical knowledge of the in-situ soil?
Answer: No undercut is anticipated. Past experience with the in-situ basement soils in the vicinity of this project has been good. The existing pavement has supported heavy industrial loads for decades without showing signs of distress.
11.) The statement of work indicates that a crushed limestone is to be placed prior to the 8” concrete slab and compacted. Please confirm the crushed limestone is to be #610 Limestone.
Answer: #610 Crushed Limestone will be suitable.
12.) The Statement of Work delineates the working hours to be 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, can these hours be extended to allow for the contractor to maximize production through the course of the day?
Answer: These times are the daily working hours for this Research Unit. Bids should be based on this schedule.
13.) The existing parking lot/accessway to the site is well worn and the existing asphalt surface is cracked and somewhat damaged. As equipment and construction traffic including debris hauling and concrete trucks travels across the damaged and worn surface additional damage will most likely be inevitable. What is the intent of the contract as to repairs to be made?
Answer: Although the existing asphalt is severely cracked, it is primarily reflective cracking and is not a direct indicator of load capacity. Only the shaded area below shows signs of base failure. It will ultimately be up to the successful bidder to monitor pavement conditions, manage their traffic and restore damaged areas to at least the pre-construction levels. Heavy and/or repetitive loads may be routed around the area of concern or a system of mats or plates can be used to bridge over damaged areas. The means and methods are completely up to the successful bidder.
