SPECIFICATIONS
Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectrometer (FTIR) System
1. BACKGROUND
The Fire Research Division (FRD) in the Engineering Laboratory (EL) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) provides measurements observed in fire and combustion experiments to enhance the standards and practice of the U.S. firefighter services and other fire-related organizations. The research conducted by the Fire Technology Group (FTG) in FRD requires versatile instrumentation to measure a wide range of analytes, including emerging contaminants of concern (i.e., per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) to high concentrations of potentially harmful combustion products (i.e., carbon monoxide, oxygen, unburned hydrocarbons).
1. OBJECTIVE/PURPOSE
The objective of this requirement is to obtain a device that measures various analytes in different applications, which is crucial to understanding the physics of fire and accessing the risk fire presents across multiple scales (e.g., full-scale room burns, benchtop experiments). One tool of use is a Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectrometer (FTIR) System used to measure concentrations of a large number of analytes in real-time, providing a deeper characterization of the environment of interest. FTIR Spectroscopy is a spectroscopic technique in which the vibrational modes of the molecules comprising a material of interest are interrogated using infrared radiation. The FTIR provides information about the molecular structure of the material of interest.
The purpose of this requirement is to obtain a Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectrometer (FTIR) System, with software, in accordance with the minimum specifications described herein.
3. SPECIFICATIONS
The Contractor shall provide an FTIR System, and software, meeting the minimum specifications identified below. All items must be new. Used or remanufactured equipment will not be considered for award. Experimental or prototype equipment will not be considered. “Gray market” components not authorized for sale in the U.S. by the proposer are not acceptable.
