The Oregon Department of Agriculture was awarded a single-award indefinite delivery contract by the Department of Health and Human Services Food and Drug Administration on August 23, 2018. With a potential value of $4.86 million, this IDV is for human food inspections to be conducted statewide in Oregon through August 31, 2023. As the prime contractor, the Department of Agriculture will leverage its expertise in food safety, agricultural programs, and statewide regulatory infrastructure to perform inspection services on behalf of the FDA. The scope of work encompasses all necessary surveillance activities to verify compliance with federal standards for food processing, manufacturing, and distribution facilities under FDA jurisdiction located within Oregon's borders. By tapping the Department of Agriculture's existing regulatory relationships and field staff, this vehicle is intended to maintain consistent oversight of food safety practices while leveraging state government resources. As the administrative agency for the state of Oregon, the Department of Agriculture oversees wide-ranging programs that support the agricultural industry, protect natural resources, ensure food is safe and accurately labeled for consumers, and conduct research. In this role, the Department works closely with multiple federal partners including the FDA, USDA, and EPA on initiatives involving specialty crops, animal health, pest management, and more. The IDV continues this longstanding cooperation by designating the Department as prime contractor to perform certain food inspection responsibilities on the FDA's behalf.
