The B&O Railroad Museum, Inc. received a $200,000 Project Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities under the Promotion of the Humanities Public Programs federal grant program (CFDA 45.164) to support the African American Railroad Oral Archives Project. Through this one-year project ending September 30, 2022, the Museum will develop oral histories and interpretive exhibits on the underground railroad activities along the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. Specifically, the Museum will transform the historic Mt. Clare passenger depot into an exhibition space focusing on the freedom seekers who used the railroad. The project also expands the Museum's educational programming, including virtual field trips and a summer program incorporating underground railroad history. Additionally, the Museum will recruit three graduate interns from Morgan State University, a historically black college, to assist with project development and implementation. The intended beneficiaries are the general public, researchers, Museum visitors, staff, and student interns.
