The Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration awarded the Ohio Department of Children and Youth $24.683 million on October 2, 2025, under the Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting Grant Program (CFDA 93.870) to deliver evidence-based home visiting services to pregnant women and at-risk families across Ohio counties through October 2, 2027.
The award funds voluntary home visits conducted by nurses, social workers, and early childhood specialists serving eligible families in at-risk communities. Services support pregnant women and parents with young children up to kindergarten entry, with the aim of preventing childhood and adult chronic disease, supporting families to prevent child abuse and neglect, promoting child development and school readiness, and improving economic self-sufficiency.
The MIECHV Program provides formula and matching grants to 56 states and jurisdictions nationwide. State grantees identify eligible at-risk communities through needs assessments, reach statutorily-defined priority populations, and implement one or more of 24 approved evidence-based home visiting models or promising approaches tailored to community needs. Ohio's allocation represents base and matching funds under the program's annual award cycle. The Ohio Department of Children and Youth, headquartered in Columbus, serves as the state lead agency for federal child welfare and early childhood programs and maintains prime-recipient responsibility for federal compliance across all awards.
