The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) received a $33.5 million project grant award from the Federal Transit Administration under the Federal Transit Formula Grants program (CFDA 20.507) to fund operating expenses from May 2021 through June 2021. The grant aims to prevent, prepare for, and respond to COVID-19 by supporting UTA's continued and expanded transit services as the region recovers from the pandemic. Funding will cover expenses like fuel, staffing, vehicle and facility maintenance normally used for preventative upkeep. UTA administrative staff wages from February 2020 to June 2021 are also eligible costs not covered by previous relief. The sole recipient, UTA will use the funds to serve populations in the Salt Lake-West Valley, Ogden-Layton, and Provo-Orem urbanized areas of Utah.
