The Federal Transit Administration awarded the Chattanooga Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) a $15,473,236 project grant under the Buses and Bus Facilities Formula, Competitive, and Low or No Emissions Programs (CFDA 20.526). The grant period runs from September 2, 2021 through March 30, 2027. CARTA will use the funding to purchase replacement fixed route and paratransit vehicles. Specifically, CARTA intends to purchase five all-electric vehicles to replace diesel fixed route buses using $3,475,000 in Low or No Emission competitive grant funds. An additional $4,200,000 in Low or No Emission competitive grant funds will support the replacement of up to three fixed route vehicles. Finally, $7,798,236 in Buses and Bus Facilities formula funds - along with $3,386,500 in state and local matching funds - will fund the purchase of 20 replacement diesel fixed route buses and five gasoline paratransit vehicles.
