This $329,616 Project Grant awarded by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) under the Biomedical Research and Research Training program (CFDA 93.859) will support Emory University's Biological Discovery through Chemical Innovation Training Program (BDCI TP). The 5-year program aims to provide specialized, interdisciplinary training to students working at the intersection of chemistry, biology, and human health, with a focus on drug discovery and development. Key products and services to be delivered include:
- An interdisciplinary course on therapeutic discovery and development
- A workshop series on cross-disciplinary language development and ethics/rigor training in interdisciplinary/team science
- An annual symposium for trainees to present their work and network with leaders in chemical biology
- Immersive research experiences outside trainees' mentor laboratories
- Bi-annual retreats with complementary CBI training programs
- Support for trainees to pursue unique professional development opportunities
The program will support 6 trainees per cohort, for a total of 12 trainees per year as it matures, drawn from graduate programs in chemistry and the life sciences. The goal is to equip these trainees with the knowledge, skills, and interdisciplinary mindset to succeed in the evolving field of therapeutic innovation.
