The National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) awarded a $549,359 Biomedical Research and Research Training Program (CFDA 93.859) Project Grant to Vanderbilt University's Sponsored Programs Administration Division. The grant will support the Molecular Biophysics Training Program (MBTP) at Vanderbilt, which aims to train students to integrate quantitative molecular approaches with key problems in biology and medicine. The funding will cover specialized didactic training, thesis research initiation, and professional development for 10 trainees over a 5-year period from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2029. The MBTP provides an interdisciplinary, diverse, and collaborative environment for researchers to utilize a range of advanced techniques, including X-ray crystallography, NMR, and cryo-electron microscopy, to address fundamental questions in areas such as protein folding, membrane protein structure, and cellular machinery. The program has grown significantly over the past 15 years, now supporting over 80 students, with 16% coming from underrepresented groups in science.
