The Department of State Bureau of Political Military Affairs awarded a $1.25 million project grant to The Halo Trust (Usa), Inc. to provide weapons removal and abatement services in Afghanistan from April 1, 2021 through March 31, 2022. Under the Weapons Removal and Abatement federal grant program (CFDA 19.800), which aims to reduce threats from at-risk, illicitly proliferated, and indiscriminately used conventional weapons, The Halo Trust will conduct landmine removal operations in Afghanistan over a 12-month period. As one of the largest demining non-profits in the world, The Halo Trust has significant experience providing life-saving humanitarian mine action and unexploded ordnance disposal in conflict-affected regions. This project grant will support their ongoing efforts to clear landmines and explosive remnants of war in Afghanistan.
