MEDICAL TRANSPORTATION RIDES TO WORK AND EDUCATIONAL TRANSPORTATION IS THE LIFELINE TO THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND VITALITY OF THE COMMUNITY. REPLACING THESE VEHICLES IS CRUCIAL TO MAINTAINING AN AFFORDABLE TRANSIT SERVICE ON THE CHEYENNE RIVER SIOUX RESERVATION.; ACTIVITIES PERFORMED: PURCHASE OF FOUR REPLACEMENT VEHICLES AND REPLACEMENT OF GARAGE DOORS. THE ORIGINAL DISCRETIONARY AWARD ALSO INCLUDED THE REPLACEMENT OF TWO FURNACES HOWEVER THE GARAGE DOOR COSTS WERE MORE THAN ORIGINALLY ESTIMATED. CHEYENNE RIVER SIOUX TRIBE REQUESTED TO INSTEAD PURCHASE THE GARAGE DOORS WITH THE FUNDS THAT WOULD HAVE REPLACED THE FURNACES. FTA HQ APPROVAL IS PROVIDED IN APPLICATION DOCUMENTS.; EXPECTED OUTCOMES: NEW BUSES IMPROVE EFFICIENCY IN MANY WAYS INCLUDING LESS DOWN TIME LESS TIME AND MONEY SPENT ON REPAIRS INCREASED ON-TIME PERFORMANCE AND MORE COMFORTABLE RIDES FOR THE PASSENGERS INCREASING RIDER SATISFACTION. NEW VEHICLES RESULT IN IMPROVED OPERATIONS AND INCREASED RELIABILITY. IN ADDITION THE COMMUNITY REALIZES INCREASED ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE EDUCATION AND REALIZES ECONOMIC BENEFITS TO THE COMMUNITY WHEN RESIDENTS HAVE IMPROVED MOBILITY OPTIONS.IMPROVEMENTS TO THE BUILDING FITS RIGHT IN BY IMPROVING THE STATE OF GOOD REPAIR. BUSES STORED IN CONTROLLED TEMPERATURE IN THE WINTER LAST LONGER AND PROVIDE MORE MAINTENANCE FREE HOURS OF SERVICE.; INTENDED BENEFICIARIES: TRIBAL RESIDENTS AND VISITORS.
