This Project Grant award from the National Endowment for the Humanities, under the Promotion of the Humanities Research program (CFDA 45.161), provides $499,998 to the University of Florida from October 2021 through September 2024. The funding supports a collaborative effort by six scholars to produce the first book-length study examining architecture of the African diaspora in and from the United States. The publication will include histories of buildings, cities, landscapes, and interiors created by various professional and informal actors within political, social, and cultural contexts. It draws connections across disparate topics and shifts the lens of architectural history to diasporic narratives beyond Eurocentric frameworks. The project challenges conventional distinctions and broadens interpretation of those involved in architectural production.
