The National Endowment for the Humanities awarded a $392,834 Project Grant to the University of Notre Dame du Lac to provide a critical edition and English translation of Friedrich Schelling's 1831-1832 Munich lectures on the philosophy of revelation. The three-year grant, awarded October 1, 2022 under the Promotion of the Humanities Research program (CFDA 45.161), will support the publication of a complete historical-critical introduction and translation of Schelling's original lectures. Considered one of the great philosophers of the German tradition, Schelling's early and middle works have been widely translated, yet his important lectures on revelation have remained unavailable in English. This edition aims to fill a gap in the study of philosophy of religion by making Schelling's culminating works accessible to English-speaking scholars. The University of Notre Dame du Lac will oversee production of the critical texts through its Office of Research.
