The University of Florida Division of Sponsored Research received a $162,115 Project Grant from the National Cancer Institute (CFDA 93.396 Cancer Biology Research) to support the research of Dr. Christopher Bennett. Dr. Bennett will lead research teams and perform key experiments to advance three of the Unit Director Dr. Jonathan Licht's NCI-funded R01 research programs focused on epigenetic mechanisms of cancer, characterization and targeting of epigenetic state in uveal melanoma, and defining and targeting epigenetic plasticity-driven drug resistance and immune escape in melanoma. The award will provide career stability for Dr. Bennett to continue making important contributions to the cancer research program, including applying cutting-edge epigenomics techniques to reveal new mechanisms of oncogenesis, tumor progression, heterogeneity, and therapy resistance. The goal is to identify new targets and pathways for cancer intervention to improve patient outcomes.
