This Project Grant award from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), under the Cardiovascular Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.837), provides $3,367,846 to Nour Heart Inc. to develop and test a novel bioenergetic drug called NOUREXAL (cyclocreatine phosphate) to increase the utilization of donor hearts for transplantation.

The key objectives of this 2-year project are to: 1) produce GMP-grade NOUREXAL and characterize its chemistry, manufacturing, and controls; 2) conduct FDA-recommended preclinical safety studies in animal models and human unused cadaver donors; 3) conduct a pilot in vivo efficacy study in pigs to demonstrate NOUREXAL's ability to safely extend cold storage time of donor hearts up to 6 hours; and 4) prepare an Investigational New Drug (IND) application to the FDA for NOUREXAL to be used in heart transplantation procedures. If successful, this novel bioenergetic drug has the potential to significantly increase the number of usable donor hearts and heart transplant cases annually.
