The National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS), under the Biomedical Research and Research Training grant program (CFDA 93.859), awarded a $1,166,190 Project Grant to Michigan State University (MSU) with a start date of May 1, 2024 and an end date of April 30, 2029.
The grant funding will support MSU's research to advance top-down proteomics techniques using capillary electrophoresis-mass spectrometry (CE-MS). The key objectives are to: 1) Develop novel CE-MS methods to enable comprehensive proteoform characterization of human cancer cell lines (starting with HeLa cells) and single cells, and 2) Apply the CE-MS techniques to study the roles of specific proteoforms in modulating early cellular differentiation and zygotic genome activation during early vertebrate embryogenesis using zebrafish as a model system. The resulting proteoform atlas of HeLa cells and insights into early developmental biology will be valuable resources for fundamental and translational research.
