This $445,000 Project Grant awarded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), under the Drug Use and Addiction Research Programs (CFDA 93.279), supports the development and pilot testing of a novel telehealth and mobile health (mHealth) intervention called MOMENT-V for young adults with cannabis use disorder (CUD).

The MOMENT-V intervention combines telehealth motivational enhancement therapy (MET) with mHealth ecological momentary intervention (EMI) to provide a fully remote brief treatment for CUD in young adults seen in primary care settings. Through an open pilot study, the intervention demonstrated high retention, satisfaction, and engagement. This 3-year pilot randomized controlled trial will evaluate the feasibility of MOMENT-V compared to enhanced usual care, examining outcomes such as intervention completion, EMI engagement, acceptability, screening, enrollment, retention, cannabis use frequency, and problems from cannabis use. The study will also explore the feasibility of using remote videorecorded and live video-observed oral fluid testing for delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) to objectively assess cannabis use reduction. The Children's Hospital Corporation, doing business as Boston Children's Hospital, is the awardee and will conduct the research.
