The National Institute on Drug Abuse awarded Washington State University a $668,110 Project Grant (CFDA 93.279 - Drug Use and Addiction Research Programs) to refine and assess the feasibility and acceptability of a technology-based intervention for college students that provides information on cannabis products, marketing, laws, and relevant risks of cannabis use. The project aims to ultimately increase awareness of the risks associated with cannabis use while empowering young adults who choose to use cannabis to do so in an informed manner, thereby reducing cannabis misuse among college students. The study will involve focus groups with 35 college students and 35 campus health educators, as well as a mixed-method survey and interview process across three college campuses in states with legal cannabis. The refined, theoretically-grounded intervention will serve as the basis for a future larger-scale randomized controlled trial to evaluate its efficacy in multiple sites across the United States.
