This Project Grant award from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR), under the Oral Diseases and Disorders Research program (CFDA 93.121), provides $441,247.00 to develop a clinically-calibrated accelerated fatigue test for predicting the clinical performance of dental restorative materials. The key objectives are to: 1) confirm the repeatability of the accelerated fatigue test for model resin-composite restorations, 2) assess the viability and repeatability of a calibrated biofilm model for producing recurrent caries, 3) determine if the laboratory model can accurately predict the service life of a wide range of composite restorations using prospective and retrospective clinical data, and 4) evaluate the accelerated fatigue and biofilm tests for assessing resin composites with caries prevention and remineralization properties. The award period runs from May 1, 2025 to April 30, 2028, and the work is being conducted by the Regents of the University of Minnesota.
