The National Institute on Aging (NIA) awarded Drexel University a $405,000 Project Grant under CFDA Program 93.866 - Aging Research. The 5-year DREXEL DREAM (Diversity, Research, Experiential Learning, Aging Science, and Mentorship) Scholars Program aims to enhance the diversity of the biomedical, behavioral, and clinical research workforce in aging research. The program will recruit and train 22 undergraduate underrepresented minority (URM) students in a 10-week paid summer aging research program, and 38 URM students in a 26-week paid aging research co-op rotation. The students will be paired with faculty mentors, participate in a virtual learning community, and earn digital badges upon completion of activities related to reframing aging, responsible research conduct, aging science, and diversity. The program's goals are to shape career goals with awareness of aging research, develop research skills, foster health equity in aging research, and evaluate the program's implementation.
