The Department of the Interior Bureau of Reclamation awarded an $8.49 million Project Grant to El Prado Water & Sanitation District under the Implementation of the Taos Pueblo Indian Water Rights Settlement program (CFDA 15.565). The grant will fund the El Prado Water and Sanitation District Phase II Water Construction Project to construct water lines and a new 500,000-gallon storage tank. This project aims to restore, preserve, and protect the Taos Pueblos' buffalo pasture wetland by moving non-Pueblo groundwater pumping away from the area and minimizing depletion of the connected groundwater resources. The new El Prado water supply wells and infrastructure will satisfy growing demand on their system while achieving the mutual benefit goals outlined in the Taos Pueblo water rights settlement agreement. The period of performance is March 9, 2022 through December 31, 2025.
