The University of Utah received a $192,500 Project Grant award from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) under the Extramural Research Programs in the Neurosciences and Neurological Disorders (CFDA 93.853) program. The award, titled "Defining the Contribution from Endothelial Cell Sphingolipid Metabolism to Outcomes of Acute Ischemic Stroke in Mice," will fund research to determine whether interventions targeting cerebral endothelial cells can improve outcomes from acute ischemic stroke in mice. This includes testing a novel therapeutic strategy of lowering ceramides to mitigate tissue injury, neurological impairments, and motor deficits associated with acute ischemic stroke. The University of Utah is collaborating with the Washington University on a $30,230 sub-award to support this research project. The grant has a period of performance from December 1, 2024 to November 30, 2026.
