The Department of Health and Human Services Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality awarded Oregon State University a $740,620 Project Grant under the Research on Healthcare Costs, Quality and Outcomes program (CFDA 93.226) to evaluate the integration of state prescription drug monitoring programs into electronic health records. Oregon Health & Science University and Comagine Health were named as sub-awardees to provide integration services for OHSU's Epic EHR system and support evaluation activities. The goal is to promote increased clinician use of PDMPs by facilitating access directly within clinical workflows. An observational study will assess the impact of EHR integration on clinician PDMP usage rates and controlled substance prescribing patterns across 12 OHSU primary care clinics over a six-month period. Results may inform national PDMP integration efforts and support future research on associated impacts to opioid prescribing and overdose outcomes. The period of performance is April 1, 2021 through March 31, 2023.
