The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development awarded a $244,190 Project Grant (CFDA 93.865 - Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research) to Research Triangle Institute, doing business as RTI International, to develop and pilot the Parent Infant Interac(X)tion Intervention (PIXI), a telehealth-based early intervention program to support families of infants with rare neurogenetic conditions. The goal is to identify participation facilitators and barriers for Black/African American and Hispanic families, and conduct a feasibility study of PIXI for these populations. This project aims to create an accessible, empirically based intervention program to support early child development and family well-being for diverse families facing rare neurogenetic conditions. Additionally, RTI International is providing a $50,000 sub-award to SRI International to support the project. This research is expected to inform future efforts to engage families of color in early intervention programs and improve health care access for children with rare diseases.
