- Federal Grant Award Summary The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) awarded The Washington University a Project Grant valued at $427,623 under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.855) for investigator-initiated biomedical research. The award, obligated on February 24, 2026, with a completion date of January 31, 2028, funds research investigating how HIV-induced immunometabolic perturbation impairs tuberculosis (TB) control in people living with...
- The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) awarded a $162,000 Project Grant to The Wistar Institute of Anatomy and Biology on February 5, 2026, under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.855). The grant supports research to define the single-cell epigenetic landscape of the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) reservoir to enable more effective latency reversal strategies. The research addresses a critical gap in HIV cure research by...
- Federal Project Grant Award Summary The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) awarded a $650,934 Project Grant to Washington University in St. Louis effective August 1, 2025, through July 31, 2027, under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.855). This award funds a mechanistic research study investigating how HIV-1 Gag/matrix proteins sequester the CARD8 inflammasome, a key immune pathway involved in detecting and responding to HIV-1 infection....
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) awarded The Wistar Institute of Anatomy and Biology a $506,550 Project Grant under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.855) for the period June 1, 2026 through May 31, 2028. This cross-sectional research study will identify host plasma biomarkers and SomaLogic disease prognosis scores associated with cellular HIV-1 RNA (CA-RNA) expression in antiretroviral therapy (ART)-suppressed persons living with HIV (PLWH). The research addresses a critical gap in understanding the clinical significance of persistent HIV expression despite suppressive therapy and its relationship to residual immune activation, impaired immune reconstitution, and development of comorbidities. The study will leverage a pre-defined cohort of 94 ART-suppressed PLWH with known HIV reservoir levels, utilizing recent advances in SomaLogic-based proteomic technology to measure a large set of at least 7,000 plasma proteins and establish links between predefined host biomarker signatures and comorbidity risk scores. By analyzing plasma and peripheral blood mononuclear cell samples collected through the BEAT-HIV Martin Collaboratory Program, this research will produce a comprehensive dataset correlating CA-RNA expression levels with plasma biomarkers that could inform future clinical risk assessment and prognostic outcomes for individuals on long-term HIV treatment.Federal Grant Award Summary
