The Regents of the University of Colorado, doing business as the University of Colorado-Denver, received a $449,999 Project Grant award from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) under the Research on Healthcare Costs, Quality and Outcomes (CFDA 93.226) program. The grant aims to implement and evaluate two decision support technology (DS Tech) prototypes focused on fall prevention and staff burden detection in long-term care (LTC) settings. The project will: 1) characterize LTC contexts to identify implementation requirements for effective DS Tech; 2) implement and evaluate the two DS Tech prototypes in one nursing home and two assisted living facilities; and 3) track adaptations of the DS Tech tools at each site. This research will produce foundational knowledge to effectively adapt and implement impactful DS Tech in LTC settings, with the goal of improving care quality and safety for people living with dementia, as well as enhancing staff performance and well-being.
The project also includes federal grant sub-awards to the Stevens Institute of Technology and the University of Missouri System to support specialized research and technical services related to the decision support technology development and implementation.
