This Project Grant award of $817,345.00 from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) Extramural Research Programs in the Neurosciences and Neurological Disorders (CFDA 93.853) will fund a study to identify and understand the role of environmental stressors in the development of Alzheimer's disease-related dementias (ADRD) across urban and rural populations. The 5-year study will recruit 600 participants (300 urban and 300 rural) at high risk for ADRD in Indiana. Participants will report on environmental stressors and wear smartwatches to track activity, heart rate, and sleep. The study will analyze environmental data and cognitive assessments to determine inequities in the relationship between environmental stressors and ADRD conversion between urban and rural dwellers. Two sub-awards totaling $XX,XXX.XX were made to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and Brigham Young University to support geospatial data collection/analysis and high-dimensional data processing, respectively.
