The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) received a $499,303 Project Grant award from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) under the Extramural Research Programs in the Neurosciences and Neurological Disorders (CFDA 93.853) grant program. The grant supports a 5-year research project to investigate the regulation of headache pain responses by the trigeminal ganglion clock. The project aims to delineate the role of the nociceptive neuron clock in governing rhythmic headache pain patterns and the potential regulatory function of the MERTK gene in this clock-headache crosstalk. By combining genetic, environmental, and pharmacological approaches, the research seeks to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying circadian regulation of headache pain and explore new chronotherapeutic strategies for pain management.
