The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) awarded a $537,754 Project Grant (CFDA 93.853 - Extramural Research Programs in the Neurosciences and Neurological Disorders) to Regents of the University of Michigan to conduct research on temporal fate specification and neuronal development. The project aims to 1) gain deeper insight into temporal fate patterning mechanisms in the Drosophila nervous system, and 2) explore the role of insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA-binding proteins (IMPs) in regulating temporal neuronal fating in the mouse neocortex. Innovative genetic tools and single-cell sequencing approaches will be used to map the molecular signatures and developmental trajectories of neurons as they undergo temporal fate specification. The findings are expected to advance understanding of neurogenesis and could inform cell replacement therapies for neurological disorders. The project will be conducted at the University of Michigan from July 1, 2024 through May 31, 2029.
