This Project Grant award of $843,254, made by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) under the Mental Health Research Grants (CFDA 93.242) program, supports research to fine-map robust genetic risk loci for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and identify associated molecular mechanisms and clinical phenotypes. The primary awardee, The Mclean Hospital Corporation, will collaborate with researchers at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University and UC San Diego to: 1) identify causal variants and genes within PTSD risk loci and analyze region-specific gene expression, methylation, and protein networks; 2) investigate cell type-specific causal variants, genes, and molecular alterations associated with PTSD; and 3) characterize the phenomic impact of prioritized PTSD risk variants, genes, and networks, including exploring PTSD subtypes and polygenic risk scores. This research aims to enhance understanding of the multi-omic and multi-cell type brain mechanisms underlying PTSD development and pathophysiology, and point toward novel intervention targets.
