The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) awarded a $774,229 Project Grant (CFDA 93.837 Cardiovascular Diseases Research) to Kaiser Foundation Hospitals' Kaiser Foundation Research Institute Division, doing business as Kaiser Permanente, to conduct a large longitudinal cohort study investigating the epidemiology of cardiometabolic outcomes among adolescents and young adults. The study aims to: 1) describe the sex- and race/ethnicity-specific incidence and trends of cardiometabolic conditions in this population; 2) examine how childhood and adolescent BMI trajectories influence cardiometabolic outcomes; and 3) identify prenatal and early life factors associated with cardiometabolic risks. The research will leverage Kaiser Permanente's extensive electronic health record data from over 2.5 million adolescents and young adults to inform early targeted interventions and reduce health disparities across the life course. The grant award period is from February 1, 2025 to November 30, 2028.
