The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) awarded a $789,026 Project Grant through the Cardiovascular Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.837) to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Inc. (Bidmc) in Boston, MA. The grant, awarded on July 1, 2024, will support a comprehensive evaluation of the long-term effectiveness and value of cardiac rehabilitation (CR) in diverse patient populations.
The project aims to leverage large linked datasets and novel analytic methods to assess the real-world impact of CR, including in-person and virtual programs. The research will investigate individual-level variability in response to CR and develop personalized estimates of treatment benefit to support shared decision-making. Additionally, the project will estimate the costs of delivering CR and evaluate the population health and cost-effectiveness implications. By addressing key knowledge gaps, this research is expected to increase evidence-based uptake of this underutilized cardiovascular therapy, particularly among underserved communities.
