The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) awarded a 4-year, $673,558 Project Grant (CFDA 93.837 - Cardiovascular Diseases Research) to Clemson University to develop silicon nanowired hypoimmunogenic human pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiac organoids for cardiac regenerative therapies. The project aims to 1) determine the effects of hypoimmunogenic gene editing on human pluripotent stem cell cardiac cells, 2) evaluate the effects of silicon nanowires on hypoimmunogenic cardiac organoids, and 3) assess the therapeutic efficacy and hypoimmunogenicity of the optimized nanowired cardiac organoids in vivo. Clemson University will collaborate with the Medical University of South Carolina and Pennsylvania State University on this project, with subawards totaling an additional $54,944.
