The Regents of the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) received a $733,805 federal Project Grant award from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) under the Cardiovascular Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.837). The 5-year grant, awarded on July 1, 2024, will fund a randomized controlled trial to test the efficacy of a virtual coaching and social support intervention in improving physical activity, psychosocial, social cognitive, and clinical outcomes for older adults (age 60+) exiting cardiac rehabilitation and living in urban and rural areas. The trial aims to address barriers to sustained physical activity after cardiac rehabilitation by providing extended support through innovative digital health approaches, including virtual coaching, social networking, and gamification elements. This research project aligns with key NHLBI priorities to improve adherence to healthy behaviors and reduce the burden of chronic cardiovascular conditions in older adult populations.
